Our popular, long-running reading series presents a diversity of work by small groups of notable authors who are also parents, reading samples of their high-quality creative writing and engaging in high level conversation about craft or theme with intensely personal discussions of their creative practices vis-a-vis the responsibility for raising kids. The series began to break negative stereotypes surrounding parents who are writers, like "women writers with kids are all mommybloggers" or "writers with kids only write children's books" or worst of all "if you have kids it means you don't value your art." We present writers who shatter these stereotypes with Pulitzer Prizes, prestigious residencies, and multiple publications, many of which are bestselling, award-winning, and critically acclaimed.

We do not tell you what you should do, we simply show you that it can be done.

  • Each Literary Salon is themed around a genre, style, writing technique or a "world issue" and features readings of current works before the discussion.
  • Of note is that the series is considered "safe space" by award-winning and bestselling authors to premiere works in progress.
  • Pen Parentis is an award-winning national nonprofit that helps writers stay on creative track after having kids All shows will be available as playbacks on our YouTube channel, please subscribe to the channel.
